In my opinion, competition is generally beneficial in various sectors, including the lodging industry. This is because increased competition between traditional hotels and privately owned residences allows travelers to obtain more reasonable prices without compromising on the quality of housing and services. According to economic principles, when more companies enter a market, the price of a particular merchandise or service tends to decline. Each company aims to undercut its competitors, including private owners, to gain a larger market share. In the context of the lodging industry, my personal experience serves as a prime example illustrating this concept. Last month, I traveled to Beijing for a business event. Unlike my previous visits, where I typically opted for a traditional four-star hotel, I decided to book a villa from a private owner on Airbnb this time. My stay in the villa was far superior to my previous hotel experiences, offering more green space and a serene atmosphere, all at the same cost.
